In a recent keynote address at the 2026 Game Developer Conference, Xbox announced exciting developments for its next generation console, Project Helix. This new console is being developed in partnership with AMD and will utilize FSR Next technology to push the boundaries of rendering and simulation.

One of the key highlights of the announcement was the introduction of Xbox mode to Windows, which will start rolling out in select markets in April. This feature aims to provide players with a familiar Xbox experience on their Windows devices while maintaining the flexibility and openness of the Windows platform.

For developers, Xbox Play Anywhere now offers a catalog of over 1,500 games, allowing them to seamlessly reach players across both console and Windows platforms. This presents a powerful opportunity for developers to expand their reach and engage with a wider audience.

As Xbox celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, the company expressed gratitude towards the developers who have contributed to shaping the Xbox legacy. With over 5,000 developers currently building for Xbox, the platform continues to evolve and innovate.

Project Helix, the next-generation first-party console from Xbox, is designed to play Xbox console and PC games with leading performance. Powered by a custom AMD SoC and co-designed for the next generation of DirectX and FSR technology, Project Helix promises to deliver a more realistic and immersive gaming experience for players.

Xbox also announced plans to ship alpha versions of the hardware to developers in 2027, showcasing their commitment to driving innovation in the gaming industry. Additionally, the company is dedicated to ensuring that games from four generations of Xbox remain playable for years to come.

With a focus on breaking down barriers between console and PC gaming, Xbox is striving to create a more seamless cross-device play experience for players. The introduction of Xbox mode in Windows 11 will allow players to switch between productivity and gaming seamlessly, providing a familiar Xbox experience in a Windows environment.

Looking ahead, Xbox has an exciting lineup of game releases planned for this year, including iconic first-party franchises like Halo and Gears of War, as well as titles from global partners and independent developers. Players can enjoy these games across devices through purchases, subscriptions like Xbox Game Pass, or other leading storefronts.

The Xbox Play Anywhere feature enables games to be played seamlessly across screens, with progress carrying forward and only needing to purchase a game once. With over 1,500 games in the Xbox Play Anywhere catalog and 500 development teams already utilizing this feature, players have a wide range of options to enjoy their favorite games.

As Xbox embarks on the next generation and the next 25 years of gaming, the company looks forward to sharing more updates later this year.
