PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) has recently been upgraded and will now be available to Assassin’s Creed Shadows players on the PS5 Pro console starting April 7. This AI library analyzes game images pixel by pixel to enhance their resolution, resulting in improved image quality across the game. With the new PSSR, players can expect cleaner and more stable environments with better reconstruction of fine details.
The upgraded PSSR is designed to enhance the overall image quality in all modes of the game. Whether players choose Performance, Balanced, or Quality mode, they can enjoy higher visual fidelity with reduced trade-offs between performance and image quality. This means that players can experience sharper and more stable images regardless of the mode they select.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is known for its dense vegetation, advanced ray-traced lighting, and dynamic effects, all of which can be challenging for image reconstruction. The new PSSR excels in handling these complex rendering scenarios by preserving fine details in dynamic vegetation, making particle effects cleaner and more stable, and reconstructing ray-traced lighting and stochastic effects more accurately.
Overall, the upgraded PSSR provides a smoother and more consistent gaming experience with improved image quality. Nicolas Lopez, Technical Architect, mentioned that integrating the upgraded PSSR into Assassin’s Creed Shadows was straightforward with minimal code changes, yet it resulted in a significant improvement in image quality.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro has received one year of updates, and the new PSSR enhancements will be available starting April 7. Players can look forward to a more immersive gaming experience with enhanced image quality thanks to the upgraded PSSR.
