NASA’s Glenn Research Center in Cleveland is once again opening its doors to high school students for the 2026 NASA Glenn High School Engineering Institute this coming July. This one-of-a-kind program aims to provide hands-on learning experiences to help students prepare for future careers in the aerospace industry.
Rising high school juniors and seniors who are interested in participating can now submit their applications starting from Friday, March 20, until Friday, May 1. This unique opportunity will immerse students in the world of NASA while equipping them with valuable career readiness tools that will benefit them in their future academic and professional pursuits, particularly in science, technology, engineering, and math fields.
During the five-day program, students will have the chance to work with NASA’s technical experts and engage in authentic mission content to deepen their understanding of the engineering design process. They will also have the opportunity to develop practical engineering solutions to real-world challenges and test prototypes in key mission areas such as acoustic dampening, power management and distribution, and simulated lunar operations.
The program will focus on important questions like how to reduce noise pollution from jet engines, develop smart power systems for future space stations, and invent tires that do not require air. These hands-on activities will provide students with a unique insight into the world of aerospace engineering and inspire them to pursue careers in this exciting field.
To be considered for the 2026 NASA Glenn High School Engineering Institute, applicants must submit a complete application package no later than May 1, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET. Selected students will have the opportunity to participate in one of the following weeklong sessions: Session 1 from July 13-17, 2026, Session 2 from July 20-24, 2026, or Session 3 from July 27-31, 2026.
In order to be eligible for this program, students must be entering 11th or 12th grade for the 2026-2027 academic year, have a minimum GPA of 3.2 verified by their school counselor, submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher, and be a U.S. citizen.
