NewsAWS Update: ECS, CloudWatch, Cognito Highlights (Dec 15, 2025)

As we approach the close of 2025, it’s fascinating to reflect on the advancements and milestones achieved in the tech world this year. The past twelve months have been packed with significant events, especially those hosted by Amazon Web Services (AWS), such as re:Invent, AWS Summits, AWS Innovate, AWS re:Inforce, Community Days, and DevDays. The culmination of these events has been re:Invent 2025, marking another year of transformative technological progress that continues to reshape our digital landscape.

For those who have yet to catch up on the new releases and announcements from re:Invent 2025, it’s worth visiting the AWS blog for a comprehensive overview of the top announcements from the event. This detailed post organizes key releases into easy-to-navigate categories, complete with links for further exploration. It’s an invaluable resource for anyone looking to dive deeper into the innovations that AWS has introduced this year.

Despite the year coming to an end, the AWS team remains hard at work, delivering new features and tools that cater to customer feedback and proactively enhance user experience. Last week, AWS introduced several noteworthy enhancements, which we believe could be beneficial for many of our readers.

Recent Launches

Amazon WorkSpaces Secure Browser Introduces Web Content Filtering
Organizations can now enhance their control over web access with the introduction of category-based filtering. This feature includes over 25 predefined categories, along with granular URL policies and integrated compliance logging. It seamlessly integrates with existing Chrome policies and works with the Session Logger for advanced monitoring. The most appealing part is that this feature is available at no extra charge in 10 AWS Regions, utilizing a pay-as-you-go pricing model.

Amazon Aurora DSQL Now Supports Cluster Creation in Seconds
Developers can now experience the convenience of setting up Aurora DSQL databases almost instantaneously, with the setup time drastically reduced from minutes to seconds. This rapid provisioning facilitates quicker prototyping through the AWS console query editor or AI-powered development via the Aurora DSQL Model Context Protocol server. This enhancement is available at no additional cost in all AWS Regions where Aurora DSQL is offered, with access through the AWS Free Tier.

Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL Now Supports Integration with Kiro Powers
This integration allows developers to expedite their application development processes by leveraging AI-assisted coding through Kiro powers. Kiro powers is a repository of pre-packaged Model Context Protocol servers that provide direct database connectivity for queries, schema management, and cluster operations. The feature dynamically loads relevant context as developers work, and is available for easy installation in the Kiro Integrated Development Environment (IDE) across all AWS Regions.

Amazon ECS Now Supports Custom Container Stop Signals on AWS Fargate
With this new feature, Fargate tasks can now honor the stop signals configured in container images, facilitating graceful shutdowns for containers that rely on signals such as SIGQUIT or SIGINT, as opposed to the default SIGTERM. The ECS container agent reads the STOPSIGNAL instruction from OCI-compliant images and sends the appropriate signal during task termination. This feature is available at no additional cost across all AWS Regions.

Amazon CloudWatch SDK Supports Optimized JSON and CBOR Protocols
The CloudWatch SDK has been optimized to default to JSON and CBOR protocols, resulting in lower latency, reduced payload sizes, and decreased client-side CPU and memory usage compared to the traditional AWS Query protocol. This enhancement is available at no extra cost across all AWS Regions and SDK language variants.

Amazon Cognito Identity Pools Now Support Private Connectivity with AWS PrivateLink
This development allows organizations to securely exchange federated identities for temporary AWS credentials via private VPC connections, effectively eliminating the need to route authentication traffic over the public internet. This feature is available in all AWS Regions where Cognito identity pools are supported, with the exception of AWS China (Beijing) and AWS GovCloud (US) Regions.

AWS Application Migration Service Supports IPv6
Organizations can now migrate applications using IPv6 addressing through dual-stack service endpoints that support both IPv4 and IPv6 communications. During various phases such as replication, testing, and cutover, users can utilize IPv4, IPv6, or dual-stack configurations to launch servers in their target environment. This feature is available at no extra cost in all AWS Regions that support MGN and EC2 dual-stack endpoints.

As we conclude this week’s roundup, and indeed wrap up for 2025, it’s truly remarkable to witness the transformation that has occurred throughout the year. From pioneering AI advancements to groundbreaking infrastructure innovations, AWS has consistently delivered a year of releases that have expanded the possibilities within the cloud computing space. Our aim with these weekly updates on the AWS News Blog has been to keep you informed and primed to leverage each new development as it unfolds.

As we look forward to the new year, we are excited to continue bringing you the latest AWS innovations starting January 2026. Until then, we wish you happy building and an even more thrilling year ahead!
