Billions of people worldwide rely on glasses or contact lenses for vision correction, and for those with AI-powered glasses like Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta, adding prescription lenses has been a common practice. In an effort to cater to a wider range of users, a new pair of Ray-Ban Meta glasses optimized for prescription lenses is being introduced. This new offering aims to provide enhanced comfort and functionality for those who require prescription eyewear on a daily basis.
The latest Ray-Ban Meta glasses are available in two distinct styles: Blayzer, featuring a rectangular design in Standard and Large sizes, and Scriber, showcasing a more rounded frame style. These glasses are designed with a focus on comfort, making them suitable for prolonged wear throughout the day. The Ray-Ban Meta Blayzer Optics (Gen 2) and Ray-Ban Scriber Optics (Gen 2) glasses come equipped with overextension hinges, interchangeable nose pads, and optician-adjustable temple tips, allowing for a personalized fit based on individual face shapes. These new styles are now available for pre-order, starting at $499, in the US through Meta.com and Ray-Ban.com, with availability at optical retailers in the US and select international markets starting April 14.
In addition to the launch of the new prescription-optimized glasses, a variety of new color options and lenses are being introduced for the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) frames. These include combinations such as Skyler in Shiny Transparent Peach with Transitions® Brown Lenses, Headliner in Matte Transparent Peach with Transitions® Grey Lenses, and Wayfarer in Shiny Transparent Grey with Transitions® Sapphire Lenses. Furthermore, new frame color and lens combinations for Oakley Meta Vanguard and HSTN are being unveiled, offering vibrant and saturated views with options like Prizm Dark Golf lenses and Prizm Transitions® lenses for optimal outdoor performance.
Apart from the aesthetic updates, the glasses are also receiving advanced software upgrades to enhance their functionality. One of the new features being introduced is hands-free nutrition tracking, allowing users to log their food intake through voice prompts or quick photos. The Meta AI technology then extracts key nutrition details and adds them to the user’s food log in the Meta AI app. Over time, personalized insights based on the food log will be provided to help users make healthier choices. Additionally, users can seek real-time nutrition guidance by asking Meta AI questions like “What should I eat to increase my energy?” based on their food log and goals.
The nutrition tracking feature will be available to users aged 18 and over in the US with Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta glasses, with compatibility for Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses coming later this summer. Another new addition is hands-free WhatsApp summaries and recall, which will be part of the Early Access Program (EAP). Users can request concise group chat summaries or specific message details using voice commands, with all interactions processed on-device and kept private with end-to-end encryption. This feature will be available in EAP soon for users of Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta, and Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses.
Exciting developments are also on the horizon, with Neural Handwriting on Meta Ray-Ban Display soon to be accessible to all users, including integration with iMessage for silent and discreet messaging. Display recording will enable users to capture their interactions on the in-lens display, their surroundings, and audio to create shareable videos. Additionally, pedestrian navigation will be expanded to every city in the US in May, providing turn-by-turn directions directly in the lens. These updates follow recent releases that introduced Instagram Reels, personalized Spotify Shortcuts, and new widgets like Reminders, Weather, Stocks, and Calendar to the home screen.
As more software features are set to be introduced this spring, the rollout of the new glasses is eagerly anticipated in the upcoming months. With a focus on enhanced comfort, functionality, and innovative technology, these prescription-optimized AI glasses aim to cater to a diverse range of users seeking a seamless and personalized eyewear experience.
