"Friday Night Baseball" Returns to Apple TV+ in 2025: What You Need to Know

The thrill of baseball under the lights is set to return as "Friday Night Baseball" resumes on Apple TV+ for its fourth season, starting March 28, 2025. This exclusive broadcast will deliver weekly doubleheaders to fans in 60 countries and regions, showcasing top-tier matchups with enhanced production quality, expert commentary, and an impressive no-local-broadcast blackout feature.

The 2025 season promises to bring fans closer to the action with its opening weekend featuring some of baseball’s most celebrated athletes. Coverage kicks off at 6:30 p.m. ET when Adley Rutschman and the Baltimore Orioles face off against their division rivals, the Toronto Blue Jays, led by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Following this, at 7:30 p.m. ET, the New York Mets, featuring superstar Juan Soto, will play against the Houston Astros, with Jose Altuve leading the charge.

Apple and Major League Baseball (MLB) have also unveiled the schedule for the first half of the season, which includes not-to-be-missed games like a Yankees-Dodgers World Series rematch in Los Angeles and a Texas showdown between the Rangers and Astros. Fans can look forward to appearances by MVP Shohei Ohtani and the star-studded Dodgers, who will travel to the east to meet Bryce Harper’s Philadelphia Phillies and Juan Soto’s New York Mets.

Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Apple Music, Apple TV+, Sports, and Beats, expressed excitement about bringing another season of Friday night games to Apple TV+. He emphasized the top-tier production quality and the availability of games across more devices than ever before, along with the benefit of no blackouts.

Returning for their third season are the broadcast teams led by Wayne Randazzo (play-by-play), Dontrelle Willis (analyst), and Heidi Watney (sideline reporter), alongside Alex Faust (play-by-play), Ryan Spilborghs (analyst), and Tricia Whitaker (sideline reporter). Lauren Gardner, Russell Dorsey, and Xavier Scruggs will continue hosting live pre- and postgame coverage, both in-studio and on the field. Siera Santos and Rich Waltz will contribute to select pregame shows and game commentary, respectively.

"Friday Night Baseball" is a collaboration between MLB Network’s Emmy Award-winning production team and Apple’s live sports production team. Each game will feature advanced camera technology and immersive sound with 5.1 audio and Spatial Audio, including player and field-level microphones to recreate the stadium atmosphere for viewers. In the U.S. and Canada, fans will also have the option to listen to local radio broadcasts for the games.

Starting March 27, U.S. fans can enjoy the MLB Big Inning whip-around show, which includes live look-ins and in-game highlights every weeknight. Additionally, Apple TV+ offers a full range of MLB-related content, including Countdown to First Pitch, MLB Daily Recap, and MLB This Week. The Apple TV app allows fans to access free MLB programming, including game recaps, classic games, highlights, and interviews.

The multiview feature on Apple TV 4K devices and iPads allows fans to stream up to four live events simultaneously, including "Friday Night Baseball" games, Major League Soccer matches, and select MLS and MLB live shows. The Post Play feature lets viewers transition smoothly into other live games once their current event or studio show concludes.

In addition to live baseball action, Apple announced the debut of "VIP: Yankee Stadium," a new immersive video experience for Apple Vision Pro, available next month. This film, hosted by broadcasting legend Joe Buck, offers an all-access pass to Yankee Stadium during a June 2024 "Friday Night Baseball" game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Viewers will experience the day from early morning preparations to the intense nighttime showdown, offering a comprehensive look at what makes Yankee Stadium legendary.

The upcoming season will also feature "Fight for Glory: 2024 World Series" on Apple TV+, a docuseries providing an all-access look at the high-stakes world of the World Series. This three-part documentary captures the journey of the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers as they vie for the prestigious trophy, featuring exclusive behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with players, coaches, and fans. Produced in collaboration with MLB and Imagine Documentaries, the series involves contributions from R.J. Cutler’s This Machine and executive producer Derek Jeter’s Cap 2 Productions.

To keep fans updated throughout the MLB season, the free Apple Sports app for iPhone provides access to scores, stats, and standings, and it allows users to explore play-by-play information, stats, live betting odds, and more. The app syncs seamlessly with favorites selected within the My Sports experience, including the Apple TV app and Apple News. With iOS 18 and watchOS 11, the Apple Sports app delivers live scores and play-by-play info directly to a user’s iPhone Lock Screen and Apple Watch.
