NewsAWS Weekly Highlights: New Tools and Updates (March 2025)

AWS Tech Updates: Discover the Latest Innovations and Events

With the Northern Hemisphere experiencing warmer weather, the tech world is buzzing with opportunities to learn and connect. This week, a notable event is taking place in San Francisco, where enthusiasts can attend the Nova Networking Night at the AWS GenAI Loft. This event promises to delve into the dynamic realm of Amazon Nova foundation models (FMs) with live demonstrations and practical applications.

Celebrating AWS Pi Day

AWS Pi Day has become a beloved annual tradition since its inception in 2021, marking the 15th anniversary of Amazon S3. This year, AWS Pi Day is set to be a hub of knowledge with deep discussions led by AWS product teams. Participants can look forward to insightful sessions on building a robust data foundation for seamless experiences and managing data for analytics and AI workloads. The event will be accessible online, featuring hands-on demonstrations and an interactive livestream for real-time engagement.

Recent AWS Launches

The tech ecosystem never rests, and the past week has been particularly eventful with several significant AWS launches. Here are the highlights:

Amazon Q Business Enhancements

Amazon Q Business now supports the ingestion of audio and video data, streamlining information retrieval and enhancing knowledge sharing. This update is pivotal as it makes multimedia content as searchable and accessible as text-based documents, thereby improving decision-making processes.

Amazon Bedrock’s New Capabilities

Amazon Bedrock now boasts Bedrock Data Automation, which is generally available. This feature allows the automation of valuable insights from unstructured multimodal content, including documents, images, videos, and audio files. Furthermore, Amazon Bedrock Knowledge Bases now support GraphRAG, a capability that enhances Retrieval-Augmented Generation by integrating graph data. This integration offers more comprehensive and explainable responses, enriching how Generative AI applications retrieve and synthesize information.

Amazon Nova Pro Foundation Model

Amazon Nova continues to innovate with the introduction of latency-optimized inference, now in preview on Amazon Bedrock. This advancement facilitates faster response times and improved responsiveness for generative AI applications, making them more efficient and user-friendly.

AWS Lambda and Real-Time Monitoring

AWS Lambda has expanded its functionality to support Amazon CloudWatch Logs Live Tail in VS Code. This feature simplifies the process of viewing and analyzing Lambda logs in real-time, all while remaining within the VS Code development environment. This update builds on the previously introduced Live Tail feature in the Lambda console.

AWS Amplify and Enhanced Security

AWS Amplify now supports HttpOnly cookies for server-rendered Next.js applications, utilizing Amazon Cognito’s managed login. This development enhances security by providing an additional layer of protection against cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks, as cookies with the HttpOnly attribute cannot be accessed by JavaScript.

Amazon Cognito’s Customization Options

Amazon Cognito has introduced the ability to customize access tokens for machine-to-machine (M2M) authorization flows. This feature enables fine-grained authorization in applications, APIs, and workloads, which is crucial for automated processes such as scheduled data synchronization tasks and real-time data streaming between systems.

AWS CodeBuild’s Expanded Support

AWS CodeBuild now supports non-container builds on Linux x86, Arm, and Windows on-demand fleets directly on the host operating system. This flexibility is beneficial for executing build commands that require direct access to host system resources, such as building device drivers or running system-level tests. AWS CodeBuild has also added support for Node 22, Python 3.13, and Go 1.23 across various platforms.

Bottlerocket’s New Features

Bottlerocket, the open-source Linux-based operating system designed for containers, now supports NVIDIA’s Multi-Instance GPU (MIG) for enhanced GPU resource utilization on Kubernetes nodes. Additionally, Bottlerocket now supports AWS Neuron accelerated instance types and offers a default bootstrap container image to simplify system setup tasks.

Amazon GameLift Streams

Amazon GameLift has introduced a new managed capability called GameLift Streams. This feature allows developers to stream games at up to 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second to any device with a WebRTC-enabled browser, broadening access and enhancing gaming experiences.

Cost-Effective Solutions with Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP

Starting March 5, 2025, Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP has eliminated SnapLock licensing fees for data stored in SnapLock volumes. This change makes this service more cost-effective for users.
