A Glimpse into the World of LEGO Horizon Adventures

First and foremost, a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has engaged with LEGO Horizon Adventures. The enthusiasm from the community and the shared tales of your experiences with the game have been truly inspiring. As players of LEGO Horizon Adventures know, the game world is crafted entirely from LEGO bricks, showcasing a remarkable blend of creativity and attention to detail. Now, this imaginative world is being transformed into something tangible with the release of an official LEGO set that features Aloy & Varl facing off against the Shell-Walker and Sawtooth. With only a short time until the set hits the shelves on March 1, we are excited to offer a behind-the-scenes look at how this vibrant game world has been brought to life in a physical form. Read on to discover the journey of this creation.

Crafting the LEGO Set: A Behind-the-Scenes Look

Stephane Varrault, the Design Director at Guerrilla, discussed the collaboration with Studio Gobo and The LEGO Group. He explained, "Working with LEGO bricks to replicate the machines from this universe requires a focus on abstraction. This abstraction is beneficial for designers as it encourages them to distill the essence of what makes something enjoyable." This design philosophy was at the core of developing the set’s components.

Joseph Kyde, a Senior Model Designer at The LEGO Group, took on the challenge of designing one of the most beloved machines in the game, the Shell-Walker. The Shell-Walker is known for its unique crate of valuable cargo mounted on its back. Creating this component out of LEGO elements was no small feat. Joseph shared, "The hexagonal cargo pod was particularly challenging to construct from LEGO bricks, making it one of my favorite problem-solving exercises for this set." Initially, Joseph attempted to mirror the in-game crate design, but soon recognized the need for a simpler version to facilitate easier assembly. After experimenting with various iterations, he settled on a design featuring two symmetrical parts that fit together with a satisfying click.

Bringing the Machines to Life

The set includes more than just the Shell-Walker. Lucas Bolt, a Senior World Artist at Guerrilla, expressed his excitement, saying, "I am thrilled for fans and builders to get their hands on this set because it allows you to construct the Sawtooth!" The Sawtooth, with its detailed and articulated design, offers a formidable adversary for any LEGO adventure. "The ability to create your own storylines with this impressive LEGO set is a fantastic opportunity, and I am honored that it is part of LEGO Horizon Adventures," stated Kat Woolley, Senior Producer at Studio Gobo.

Adding the Heroes to the Adventure

Every adventure requires heroes, and this set includes two: Aloy and her steadfast companion, Varl. Frédéric Andre, Creative Lead at The LEGO Group, explained, "Including Aloy was an obvious choice." Aloy’s minifigure boasts intricate details, from her iconic outfit to a more expressive facial design that captures her playful nature from the game. Varl, too, is crafted with the same level of detail, making him an exceptional minifigure. Frédéric added, "Varl’s decoration ensures that he is just as fantastic a minifigure as Aloy."

Creating Dynamic Storytelling Opportunities

With the inclusion of these heroes, machines, and environmental elements, the set offers endless opportunities for dynamic storytelling in LEGO Horizon Adventures. Whether you are recreating your favorite game moments or inventing entirely new narratives, your creativity is the only limit. As Varl demonstrates by rebuilding a Sawtooth and giving it a stylish new look, the possibilities are endless. We eagerly anticipate seeing what you create, so please share your photos, videos, and stories with us by tagging Guerrilla on social media when you get the set.
