Wimbledon and IBM Unveil Enhanced Digital Features for 2026 Championships

The All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) and IBM have announced a suite of new digital features set to enhance the experience for fans during The Championships, Wimbledon in 2026. These innovations, powered by IBM’s watsonx AI technology, aim to create a more engaging and personalized experience for millions of tennis enthusiasts worldwide.

AI-Powered Features Enhance Fan Engagement

Among the standout features is the newly developed Key Moments tool, which builds on the existing Likelihood to Win feature. This tool utilizes AI algorithms to continuously assess players’ chances of winning based on a combination of current match statistics, historical data, expert opinions, and real-time match momentum. Key Moments goes a step further by providing detailed insights into pivotal plays that influence match outcomes, helping fans understand the dynamics of each contest.

This feature will be available for both gentlemen’s and ladies’ singles matches, offering fans a clearer understanding of how momentum shifts throughout the game. By explaining the reasoning behind AI-generated probabilities, Key Moments aims to deepen fans’ comprehension of the sport.

Another significant addition is the enhanced Match Chat function. This AI-driven assistant allows fans to engage in natural language conversations during matches. Instead of sifting through various screens or statistics, users can simply ask questions like “What has happened in the match so far?” Match Chat responds instantly with conversational answers that may include relevant photos and videos for added context. This feature is built on watsonx Orchestrate and leverages advanced AI models trained specifically on Wimbledon’s editorial style and tennis terminology.

Modernization of Digital Platforms

The introduction of these fan-centric innovations is supported by a comprehensive modernization of Wimbledon’s digital platforms. IBM conducted extensive data analysis to understand how different stakeholders—fans, players, broadcasters, and media—interact with Wimbledon’s digital ecosystem. The result is a redesigned user experience that streamlines navigation and offers tailored content for various audiences.

A key achievement in this modernization effort was the migration of Wimbledon’s extensive content archive to a new architecture. This archive includes over 15,000 digital assets such as articles, videos, photographs, and their associated metadata. Utilizing IBM Bob—an AI-powered development accelerator—engineers were able to create a knowledge graph that maps content relationships effectively. This process traditionally required multiple specialists working over several months but was completed in just four weeks by a single engineer.

Statements from AELTC and IBM Leadership

Usama Al-Qassab, Marketing and Commercial Director at AELTC, emphasized the organization’s commitment to delivering an exceptional guest experience at Wimbledon. He stated that their ongoing partnership with IBM enables them to harness cutting-edge technology to create meaningful interactions with their global audience.

Jonathan Adashek, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications at IBM, highlighted that their collaboration goes beyond merely providing scores and statistics. The new fan experiences coupled with platform modernization exemplify how organizations can leverage AI not only for deeper engagement but also for operational efficiency.

A Legacy of Innovation

The partnership between IBM and AELTC spans over 35 years, beginning with the launch of Wimbledon’s official website in 1995 and its mobile app in 2009. Since then, they have continued to integrate advanced technologies into The Championships experience. In 2025 alone, these efforts reportedly led to a 16% increase in overall engagement across all platforms and a remarkable 39% growth in registrations for myWIMBLEDON.

The Championships will take place from June 29 to July 12, 2026. Fans can access these innovative features through IBM Slamtracker on both the Wimbledon app and wimbledon.com.

What This Means

The enhancements introduced by IBM and AELTC signify a substantial shift towards integrating advanced technology into sports events. By utilizing AI-driven tools like Key Moments and Match Chat, Wimbledon aims not only to enrich fan engagement but also to set new standards for how sports organizations can leverage technology for operational excellence. As digital experiences become increasingly important in sports consumption, these innovations may serve as benchmarks for other sporting events looking to enhance their audience interactions.
