Reboot your PC

While this may seem absurd, rebooting your Windows PC is essential to temporarily subside any technical issues prevailing on your PC. So the same reason, restarting your PC can also help reduce the high CPU and memory usage. This is because it wipes out all the caches and resets windows settings and lets you make a fresh restart.

So go ahead and hit the Restart button to reduce the high CPU and memory usage temporarily.

Run SFC Scan

Now when your system reboots and the high CPU usage is reduced considerably, you should go ahead and run the SFC command to scan your PC files. Later, it will also repair or recover the corrupt system files thus resolving the issues with the SysMain service.

  • Press the Windows key and then type cmd in the search bar.
  • Now select the relevant search result and then choose the Run as Administrator option from the context menu.

sfc /scannow

Disable Sysmain service via Command Prompt

If you see no reduction in the high CPU and memory usage then, the next thing to do is to disable the Sys Main service itself using the command prompt. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Launch the Command Prompt once again by typing Command Prompt in the search bar of the Start Menu.
  • Now, highlight the Command Prompt in the search result and then choose the Run as Administrator option.
  • Now type the following command in the command prompt window and then hit the enter key.

sc stop “SysMain” & sc config “SysMain” start=disabled

  • Wait until you are notified that these services have been disabled.

Disable Backup Intelligent Transfer Service

For the uninitiated, Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) is a Windows Service that is utilized by programmers and system administrators for downloading and uploading the HTTP web servers along with the SMB file shares. But, many users have reported that this service creates issues on your Windows 11 PC. So let’s disable it for good:

  • Use the CTRL+ALT+DELETE key to bring up the task manager.
  • Now go to the services tab here and then choose the Services from the built-in menu.
  • Look for the “Background Intelligent Transfer Service” in the background section and then right-click it.

  • Now choose the Stop option from the context menu.
  • Finally, apply the changes and see if the CPU and memory usage is reduced.

Use Registry Editor To Disable Sysmain

You can also disable the SysMain service via the registry editor. If doing so from the command prompt gives you anxiety, you can try this method.

  • For this, open the Run dialog box using the Windows+R shortcut key.
  • Then type Regedit in the text box and hit the enter key to launch the Registry Editor.
  • When in the Registry Editor, open the following path:

HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SysMain

  • Now right-click anywhere within the right side and then choose the Modify option from the context menu.
  • Then enter the digit ‘4’ in the Value data box and then press the OK button.
  • After this press the OK button.
  • Now reboot your PC to disable Service Host SysMain successfully.
